How to 'moisturize and seal' relaxed / natural hair: What does it mean to 'moisturize and seal'?

What is 'moisturize and seal'? Why should I 'moisturize and seal'? How do I 'moisturize and seal'?

What does it mean to moisturize and seal and why should I do it?

'Moisturizing and sealing' your hair is extremely important i caring for your hair whether natural or chemically treated. it's even more important for chemically treated hair though.
African hair, especially chemically treated hair, (all hair actually) needs to retain moisture in order to avoid breakage or damage and in order to stay as healthy as possible. When we moisturize our hair whether by lotion or water, we aid it in good health but it's important to know that a lot of this moisture is evaporated or dries out and doesn't stay in the hair long enough to do maximum good.

Moisturizing and sealing the air conquers this problem as it allows the hair to retain the moisture for longer.

Put simply, to moisturize and seal means to moisturize the hair and then seal in the moisture.

How do you 'moisturize and seal' hair?

The process is fairly simple. It entails using the product you will be moisturizing the hair with (this can be a lotion moisturizer or a water / spray based one) and a natural oil. Put simply, all you need to do is moisturize your hair with your chosen product and then apply the oil (Coconut oil, Grape Seed oil, Olive oil and Castor oil are some of the best to use) to your hair. The oils seal the moisture into the air and prevent it from just evaporating out.

This video is a quick demonstration on how to moisturize and seal your hair.
