How to get thicker relaxed hair: Tips for thicker hair

How can I thicken my relaxed hair? How can I get my relaxed hair thicker? What would make my relaxed hair a little thicker so that it looks and feels healthier? Is all relaxed hair thin?

The following tips should help you see an improvement in the thickness of your hair as well as the health of it:

  1. Stretch your relaxers.
There are numerous benefits to stretching your relaxers.
One of these includes thicker relaxed hair. The further a part you pace your relaxers, the less chemical is ultimately being applied to it and the more time it has to recover from the previous relaxer.

  2. Massage with Castor oil and incorporate it in your hair regimen.
Castor oil is known to promote thickening the hair as well as assisting in hair growth. It is a natural oil and is thus healthy.
Castor oil is pretty thick so it may be advisable to heat it up a little before applying (this will help thin it out a little).
  3. Reduce your heat usage.
Heat is another form of damage to the hair. Excessive heat resulting in heat damage will leave your hair thin and brittle as well as broken. The less heat you use, the healthier your hair will be and the thicker it will naturally become.
  4. Increase your air drying.
Linked to reduced heat is air drying. Air drying allows your hair to absorb as much moisture as possible and substitutes heat. This results in thicker hair naturally.
  5. Use braid outs, Bantu knot outs and twist outs.
This has a bit of a "fake it till you make it" element added to it.
Braid outs, twist outs and Bantu Knot outs are hair styles that style the hair in curly natural looks which are also evidently fuller and thicker looking. This will provide the illusion of thicker hair.
Also though, by using more braid outs, twist outs and knot outs, that means you are reducing heat on your hair which would provide real thickness as well.
