How to wash relaxed hair with video

How do I wash my relaxed hair? How can i wash my relaxed hair at home? What are some tips on watching your own hair at home?

Washing relaxed hair is pretty much the same as washing natural hair. There are some tips to help make the process simpler as well as suggested products to use.

Top 5 Tips for washing your relaxed hair

1. Don't overdo it with the clarifying shampoo's. Clarifying shampoos strip your hair of oils and dirt which is good for once or twice a week. Don't wash your hair with clarifying shampoo on a daily bases or you could end up with dried out hair. For in between washes, co-wash making use of a conditioner in place of a shampoo (any cheap one will do) and use it in the same way as you would a shampoo.

2. Have a good moisturiser to apply to your hair afterwords. Also note that straight after a wash is a good time to add a good oil as an insulator to keep in moisture. Castor oil is a good insulator especially if you will be having your hair in a protective style and don't mind it being a bit greasy. Coconut oil is a great alternative for less weighed down hair with the same moisture locked in benefit.

3. Try to avoid tangles. Don't rub your hair vigorously causing knot ups or tangles. Be gentle and you'll loose less strands.

4. After washing your hair try air drying if you can. The less heat - the better. For straighter hair after drying try air drying your hair in a wrap or bun. For a curlier look air dry your hair in plaits, twists or Bantu knots.

5. Read your conditioner and shampoo bottles - you want to minimize using products containing mineral oil as much as possible. The closer "mineral oil" is to the front of the contents list the higher the amount of it in your product so do take note.
